Ancient forest giants

We are so fortunate to live in such a diverse area with many different environments. One special area close by is the Border Ranges National Park in the hinterland behind Murwillumbah and the Tweed. Its close proximity to Byron shire makes it a great day outing. Mt Warning or Wollumbin created this amazing geological area with is beautiful rainforests. This is one of the areas we love to spend time in when we don't have a cruise going.

Some walks in the park have incredible views of Wollumbin and the caldera formed when it erupted millions of years ago. Its a great place to take a picnic lunch and enjoy the natural beauty of the forest.

Situated in this mountainous area are some ancient forest giants, Antarctic Beech trees, which were once found in Antarctica. They have multi trunks and reach amazing heights and breadths. Some are found within easy walks along forest walking tracks in the National Park.
